Chaos at Howe Community Park Injures 4 Shot in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Officials in Sacramento County are examining a violent incident that unfolded on April 18 2026 at the Howe Community Park area as Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were dispersing an unsanctioned gathering of hundreds of attendees.

How It Started

Deputies initially got calls about the Arden-Arcade park at about 6:30 PM after learning of subjects reportedly carrying get more info hidden weapons. Shortly after, additional information came in concerning a possible fight breaking out within the park grounds.

A law enforcement helicopter scanned the area from the air but could not confirm any ongoing fight. However, it became clear that several hundred individuals had assembled at the park without authorization.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Just as the crowd began to move that an estimated 20 to 25 shots echoed through the night. Gunfire sent the crowd running in all directions. Deputies wasted no time in identifying shooting victims.

Four Gunshot Victims

By the time the scene was secured, four shooting victims were confirmed as gunshot victims. The shooting victims — including a female and three males ranging in age through their in their early to late twenties — were taken to Sacramento area hospitals. Medical personnel indicated that two victims sustained immediate injuries, one person had injuries of a moderate nature, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. Thankfully, all four victims survived and were stable.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District assisted at the location and provided medical assistance the injured on location.

What Investigators Found

The bulk of the shooting seemed to have taken place on the Cottage Way side of the park next to the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Detectives located extra shell casings along Cottage Way. Round impacts were observed in the metal fencing alongside the nearby Home Depot. The physical evidence pointed to that at least one of the shooters had been firing southward from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot building and parking lot. That Home Depot location was secured under a brief lockdown for a period of time. Crime scene technicians and detectives stayed at the location throughout the night.

Arrests Made

Information relayed via scanner audio confirmed that a Kia was pulled over in nearby Solano County. Four individuals were detained. Law enforcement units were traveling to Solano County to pick up those detained for questioning. Footage analyzed by investigators established that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
